The EAFS started an excavation at Threipmuir in 2021, investigating the site of a horse gin. Work there was continued from August to October 2022, clearing back the grassed bank area outside the west wall of the threshing shed.
The supposed Stack Stance turned out to be much narrower than we anticipated (>1m) being surrounded by the cobbled surface of the horse walk. There were a large number of finds including battery packs, bottles and ceramics. Interesting finds included a North British Railway button and a cream jar from Craigmillar Creamery.
Further work is planned to excavate the south half of the stone feature. Youth Vision are also applying for funding to reconstruct the threshing shed.
